It has been noticed that dissolved organic matter and total Hg as well as MeHg concentrations are linked to one another in surface waters, although the strength of these associations vary by, e.g., season, vegetation and organic matter type, stream order, climate, atmospheric deposition Hg depostion rates, extent of exposure to sun, etc. The DOC and Hg related entries on this web site document how DOC and Hg are linked to spatial and temporal basin hydrology and  source  of surface water, as well as other DOC and Hg controls.
